ESG is a means of substantiating and measuring a company's commitment to sustainability. ESG is an acronym for Environment, Social, and Governance. While the concept has been around for quite some time, ESG commitment is now a central measure for customers and investors alike to decide what companies to support, and which ones to avoid. Access to capital and customers are primary drivers of a company's focus on ESG, but actually, it is just the right thing to do. And one only has to look as far as Enron, Wells Fargo and others to understand how a lack of responsible ESG practices can have a detrimental impact on business.
