About Sea Star Base
Sea Star Base
Sea Star Base Galveston is a non-profit organization providing outstanding marine and aquatic programs where youth, persons with disabilities, and the underserved can learn teamwork and leadership skills, self-reliance and confidence, maritime career pathways, and independence of mind, body, and spirit. The organization was founded by Captain Charles and Rosemary Doolin whose original idea to build a modest sailing center, expanded to our current LEED Certified Platinum 30,000 square foot facility on 10 acres of naturally xeriscaped property. It includes an event center, outdoor chapel, amphitheater, commercial-grade kitchen, furnished dormitory rooms able to accommodate approximately 200 guests, swimming pool, and state-of-the-art marina where the SSBG fleet is docked, including the 110-ft BaySmart Express floating classroom.
SSBG is perfect for hosting weddings, galas, fundraisers, conferences, meetings, team building, and virtually any other type of event. From dorms and dining halls to ballrooms, meeting rooms, and classrooms, to recreational spaces and activities, SSBG provides all of the functionality and amenities needed to make your next event a success. Sea Star Base Galveston is also home to the only U.S. Sailing Community Sailing Center in Texas, focusing primarily on sailing education, with a special emphasis on disabled and special needs individuals and veterans.
